Homeschool

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your being, and all your strength.  These words that I am commanding you today must always be on your minds. Recite them to your children. Talk about them when you are sitting around your house and when you are out and about, when you are lying down and when you are getting up. Deuteronomy 6:5-7

Why homeschool?

Choosing to homeschool was a very personal decision for us. My sister had been homeschooled for a year for medical reasons, but other than that homeschooling was foreign to us. We didn't know or at least we didn't think we knew anyone who had ever been homeschooled. Later, we found out that many "normal" people we knew were homeschooled. When TJ began his journey to become a minister in the United Methodist Church, we knew we would be moving every few years. We did not want our kids to always be the new kids at school.
Our reasons for choosing to homeschool have transformed over the past couple years. We realized that God gave US these precious children to raise to be His servants. He has equipped us with everything we need to teach them. We are the best people (even at our worst) to teach and nurture them.

What about public school?

We think that public school teachers and staff are doing a great work. They are raising our children's future peers. Just because we choose not to send our children, doesn't diminish their role in our world's future and our children's future.

How to homeschool?

We register with an umbrella school. Homelife Academy. They help us with curriculum choices, record our grades, and provide diplomas.

We buy most of our books used at curriculum sales, The Hillbilly Book Barn, CBD, and we have borrowed plenty from sweet friends.
